Nick, Steven og Michael arbejder som stålarbejdere i Pensylvania. Livet går med hårdt arbejde, jagt og druk. De tre venner bliver indkaldt og tager til Vietnam, hvor de ender som krigfanger, der tvinges til at spille russisk roulette. Selv om de undslipper krigens rædsler, har det psykiske og fysiske pres store følger for resten af deres liv.
Tom Cruise er Stef – en ung flot fyr med amerikansk fodbold som sin store lidenskab. Stefs højeste ønske er at blive så god en fodboldspiller, at det giver ham adgang til universitetet. Han vil gerne være ingeniør – men frem for alt vil han bare væk fra sin fødeby, hvor den lokale mine stort set er den eneste beskæftigelsesmulighed. Hans far og bror arbejder i minen, og alt ser ud til, at også Stefs fremtid ligger der. Men sådan skal det ikke være, hvis det skal gå efter Stefs hoved. Hans anden store lidenskab hedder Lisa. Både sammen og hver for sig kæmper de et brag af en kamp for at få deres drømme og ambitioner opfyldt, men møder naturligvis massiv modstand – bl.a. fra Stefs fodboldtræner.
Seks arbejdsløse stålarbejdere bliver inspireret af Chippendales og vælger at starte deres eget striptease show. Det viser sig dog ikke at være helt så let, som de gik og troede, samt hvad siger koner, børn og venner til det? Men vigtigst af alt, er der virkelig nogen der vil se seks almindelige mænd smide alt tøjet? Dette er en vellykket og vildt morsom film. Et sikkert grin.

The widow (Aileen Pringle), believing she can ruin Ince by using his own methods, conspires with her husband's former partner (Sam De Grasse), but a strong friendship between Ince and Pringle's young son (Freddie Burke Frederick) changes things dramatically. According to future Three Stooges director Edward Bernds, who worked as a sound mixer on Wall Street, Ince's reaction to his rival's suicidal jump from a window ledge was changed from a sneering "I didn't think he had the guts" to the more respectful "I didn't think he'd do it" due to derisive laughter from the film's crew.
