Il 7 agosto del 1974 il funambolo francese Philippe Petit realizza il suo sogno, qualcosa di impossibile, qualcosa che nessuno farà mai più. Per quasi un'ora cammina avanti e indietro su un cavo teso tra le torri gemelle di New York, a più di 400 metri d'altezza, senza alcuna protezione. Lo guardano la sua donna, gli amici che lo hanno aiutato, la polizia che aspetta di arrestarlo, la città e poi il mondo. Lo guardano le nuvole. Philippe Petit cambia il modo in cui New York guarda ai suoi nuovi simboli negli anni '70, li ammanta della magia dell'arte e dell'incredibile, realizza il sogno nella terra dei sogni. Lì vengono raggiunti dai leoni marini che vogliono mangiare il pesce che il cucciolo ha lanciato in bocca a Paperino, creando un gran scompiglio.
