Salzburg, Deutschland, 2000. Die ältere tschechische Schauspielerin Lída Baarová erzählt einem Journalisten die turbulente Geschichte ihres Aufstiegs zum Ruhm im Berlin der 1930er Jahre und ihrer leidenschaftlichen Beziehung zu dem finsteren Joseph Goebbels, dem Propagandaminister des Dritten Reichs.

Die junge Sprinterin Anna trainiert hart, denn ihr Ziel ist hoch gesteckt: die Olympischen Spiele in Los Angeles 1984. Unterstützung bekommt sie vor allem von ihrer Mutter Irena, die früher selbst mal eine Profi-Tennissportlerin war – bis sie schließlich 1968 aktiv am Prager Frühling mitwirkte und von diesem Moment an unter strenger Beobachtung der Behörden stand. Als Irena eine Affäre mit einem Dissidenten beginnt, gerät nicht nur sie, sondern auch Anna ins Fadenkreuz der Polizei. Das ist jedoch nicht die einzige Gefahr für Annas Karriere. Sie droht auch ein Opfer "Medikamentenprogramms" ihres Trainers zu werden.

Wie eine vergessene Insel liegt ein alter botanischer Garten inmitten einer lauten Stadt. Johanna (Linda Votrubová) lebt dort zusammen mit ihrer Mutter (Barbora Hrzánová) und ihrem besten Freund Mathias (Jakub Wunsch), dem Sohn des wortkargen Gärtners Blume (Jan Hartl). Johanna liebt die Pflanzen und Tiere, die ihr grünes Heim bevölkern. In ihrer Fantasie kann alles lebendig werden und wundersame Dinge passieren. Nur in der Schule hat sie es mit ihren Mitschülern und einer gemeinen Lehrerin nicht leicht. Als der fiese Bürgermeister Rýp (Daniel Drewes) den paradiesischen Garten abreißen lassen will, um dort ein Entertainmentcenter zu bauen, ist Johanna schockiert. Fieberhaft überlegen Mathias und sie wie man ihr Zuhause retten könnte. Da taucht eines Nachts ein kleiner, blauer Tiger in der Stadt auf und gefährdet die perfiden Pläne des Bürgermeisters ernsthaft. Es scheint, dass nur der Tiger den Garten vor dem Abriss bewahren kann.

The evolving relationship between the hot-headed Olga and Nathan is a confrontation between two worlds - the repressed East and free West. But, Olga won‘t give up the manuscripts to Nathan so easily…

Olga Sommerová lays before us Suchý’s prolific creative and civic journey through life with the subtle distinctiveness we have come to expect; she also demonstrates her singular flair for capturing exceptional moments.

The film maps the life and work of the historian Ján Mlynárik (1933 - 2012), which took place very close to the controversial events in the historical development of the former Czechoslovakia.
