Μια δραματική απόδοση της ιστορίας δύο ομάδων νεαρών που κάνουν τη δική τους επανάσταση στην Οκλαχόμα. Η πόλη έχει χωριστεί ανάμεσα στους Socials, την συμμορία των πλούσιων, και τους Greasers, την αντίστοιχη των φτωχών,ανταγωνίζονται η μία την άλλη, μπλέκουν σε παράνομες υποθέσεις, αναμετριούνται με το θάνατο και βρίσκονται συνεχώς στο στόχαστρο της αστυνομίας. Ένας από τους Greasers, ο Τζόνι, μαχαιρώνει σε άμυνα έναν της αντίπαλης συμμορίας και γίνεται θανάσιμος στόχος. Η πόλη, πλέον, βρίσκεται σε πόλεμο. Καθώς όμως το ανελέητο κυνηγητό δεν τελειώνει,τα αγόρια συνειδητοποιούν ότι ξαφνικά μεγάλωσαν πολύ γρήγορα, ότι χάνουν τη ζωή μέσα από τα χέρια τους και ότι τόσα χρόνια η επανάστασή τους ήταν... χωρίς αιτία!

Ο γιος του αφεντικού της, ο Ουγκολίν, την έχει ερωτευτεί, αλλά αυτό δεν λυγίζει τις αντιστάσεις της. Όταν πετυχαίνει να μειώσει τις προμήθειες νερού του χωριού, πλησιάζει ολοένα και στη λύση του αινίγματος, αλλά και σε τραγική κατάληξη.
