Discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation

Saw this again yesterday.

If simple 20th-century technology was all they needed to product that plague, why didn't super-advanced 23rd-century technology cure it in like 5 minutes?

So, in the 24th century it is possible to cure all (infectious) diseases within minutes?

I don't think that even then, despite Roddenberry's dream of an 'utopic' future, medical science would have advanced that far. There is still a long, long way to go.

It will take much more time, not just minutes, to find a cure. Will Wyatt succeed?

What is not clear to me is: why doesn't the Federation quarantine the ship and have a medical team try to find a cure? Even if they don't, the information they collect on the disease would be invaluable.

Side notes:

I understand that the answer - almost - everytime to your question would be 'plot convenience'. Any discussion would then just become a moot point.

Of course, if McCoy was there, he would find a cure before the end of the episode. wink

Or check with Natira. grinning

Answer ;plot convience laughing
