Discuss Switched at Birth

Is anyone from IMDB planning on posting here? I never caught where anyone from the old board was going so I hope to see some people here since I use this site for all my other shows!

Hi, I came from IMDB and I hope to see more post soon. I'm not really sure if there's more of us, though. There's also moviechat.org, but they don't have any new posts on the show either.

Yes..me!

Heck, yeah. Migrated over here from IMDB. I want to discuss epi 6.3: Why is it verboten for MB to be dating Tank, from Bay's point of view? The last we saw of Bay and Tank, she seemed to pity his situation and thought he got a bad rap. So why the OTT reaction from Bay when she discovers they're dating?

well i can relate to bay's feelings. she's felt bad for months for dating mb's ex.. so she's been stewing on those pent-up feelings and then she finds out that (her good friend) mb is dating the one guy who caused bay incredible pain. the thought of seeing them together and knowing that they are together (without the context provided later on) is just like twisting a knife in a festering wound.

i did like though what happened later .. the background of how and why mb and tank got together and how many of those negative feelings bay had changed through and during the conversation between her and mb.

Hi, WizardsMug. Just saw epi 6.4 (or is it 6.5) about the BSU and Chris Walker. Gotta admit the writers surprised me in a good way, with the twists and turns. They really managed to touch on so many facets of race relations. And we finally found out Keshon's name! What did you think?

Sorry bad internet connection atm ... i have to admit that i'm not sure who you keshon is, but yes i did really like that episode. i loved the screen with all the posts coming in and stopped watching to try to read most of them. i also loved that the show took the time to look at problems people with different skin-tones can face in the US. i'm not american and i'm often amazed at all the racism. i'm glad that there are tv channels and tv writers who really take the time to write engaging stories that takle inequalities. be it buffy, turning the petit, blonde female into a capable superhero, the wire looking at drug trafficking from all kinds of angle, or little show like switched at birth and the fosters.

i love sab because it made me want to learn asl! i'm currently taking a break of learning it actively but i love seeing it on screen again with subs and it was the first show that taught me playfully about so many deaf issues.i'm grateful to that. but i digress :)

it's great that they took the chance to produce a quality last season and decided to look at other issues at college. haven't had the chance to see the latest ep.. hopefully soon!

Spoiler ahead.................................................The latest episode changed directions and focused on the issues of different ages whether it is trying to get a tattoo at 15 or still be sexually relevant at 50. They covered a lot of ground. The only racism story line was Mingo. Someone needs to give the guy a break. There was no malicious intent. He truly loves Lil Wayne, and you can't be a racist and love Lil Wayne. How he and Daphne ever got together is a miracle, and the writers dropped hints that they might reconcile. Is this a female empowerment story line where the smart girl just wants to have hot sex in college so she sleeps with the mindless hunk? A few episodes back, her father's reaction to the end of "Dingo" was hilarious when he was trying to push her to Luca. What Dad wouldn't prefer Luca over Mingo for his daughter.

" you can't be a racist and love Lil Wayne" - Am not familiar with Lil Wayne, but I know plenty of folks who are bigoted but they love soul and R&B. The problem is that they think loving soul and R&B proves that they're not bigoted. We're all bigoted.

re the last epi, can anyone remind me of what Daphne stole from the previous clinic? Forgot that epi completely.

Also:

  1. What kind of name is Noel for a Latina?
  2. What kind of name is Bombshell Betty's for a tattoo parlor that purports to be about art? That's exactly the type of name I'd give a tramp stamp shop.
  3. The 15yo client handed Bay a wad of bills that presumably was enough for her to pay her weekly chair fee. No way did that simple tat cost $300.00.

I think the point of that was that he was only 15 and wanted the tattoo so bad he was willing to pay any amount of money for it since he was obviously underage.

Where does a 15yo from a low-income neighborhood get that kind of money?

Good question. Maybe as a gang initiation he had to steal it.

i never thought that mingo was racist, honestly not being from the US i still don't really get it what exactly is so bad of going as your fav character (i have no idea who lil wayne is) i understand that tensions at the college were running high already and that mingo's costume was the proverbial last straw ..

to be perfectly honest i didn't even really understand the cotton ball story .. i understood that it was very offensive to everyone involved who wasn't racist in that episode. did slaves work on cotton ball fields? i hope i'm not hurting anyone's feeling by asking this.

i was wondering about that, didn't make sense to me. the tiny tattoo in exchange for all these bills..

what if the boy just got a gang tattoo to look cool, stole the money from his dad, or saved it .. maybe i'm naive (prob am, again i have never experienced gangs in my life) but the boy didn't seem like he was sent by a gang ...

You need to google Lil Wayne. He is a great entertainer that appeals to all races. I think the kid was willing to overpay for the tattoo because he knew he was underage and it was illegal. He just wanted fast service to get out before someone with a bigger brain than Bay walked in and realized what was happening.
