Discuss Tony Awards

Item: The Tony Awards

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: More of a question... I looked at The Academy Awards page, and it lists the year as 1953, the year of the first broadcast. Shouldn't The Tony Awards be listed that way too? First broadcast was the 13th annual in April 1959.

Yes. The first season (season 1) should be the first televised ceremony. According to Wikipedia, the 1956 awards were also televised. thinking

Yes, you are correct. From the official Tony's site: "television coverage began in 1956 when Du Mont’s Channel 5 telecast them locally for the first time."
