UFC 249 was deleted. The old link was here: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/702158-ufc-249-tony-ferguson-vs-justin-gaethje?language=en-US

There were two entries of this originally but if this was the reason why it was removed, the wrong one was chosen as the old one was way more filled in/accurate.

Is the other one this one?
https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/661424-ufc-249-ferguson-vs-gaethje
If so, I can tell from ID 661424 that he is the oldest.
What was deleted, ID 702158, was newer.
And the rule is to survive the oldest.

that's the other, correct. That's an unfortunate rule as it destroyed what was a lot more organized and collective effort. Oh well, good to know.

Thanks for explaining. Curious when duplicates come up does the amount of work put in hold any weight or is it automated and simply get based on age? Like I said, it's good info to know moving forward before investing time into adding info. I didnt create either, I dont know what his/her reservations were about adding to the existing one. I'm guessing he/she didnt know the other one existed. However I saw that one was way ore accurate and had a lot more info so I contributed that one. Obviously I dont want to do that moving forward before knowing it won't be deleted as a dupe.

Thanks again

We almost always keep the original entry. In this case, a contributor created a good entry. Then, about four months later, another contributor created a duplicate. It makes no sense to penalize the first contributor because of a mistake made by someone else. man_shrugging

Exclusions are not automatic.
Most of the time it is users who report the existence of a duplicate.
Only Moderators can delete a duplicate.
There is no tool to merge. :-(
There is only a tool for Merge people.
Even so, only credits.
Biography, date and place of birth, images etc ... just by hand.
I haven't personally taken care of that for a long time.
But it takes a lot of work to merge manually.
The same job that a regular user would do.
A good way to check if there is a duplicate is in addition to searching for the title, also searching for the IMDB ID.

not sure what you're referring to. None of this took place months ago and the original wasn't good/relevant. Hence my posing the question.

Thanks for the info. Basically if someone reports it then the other gets deleted. FYI, most of the stuff I add content to and reference in these threads don't have IMDB ID's. Some of the really big events will but the majority of the time they don't.
