The Movie Database Support

Travisbell,

Rather than me continually posting off topic feature requests and suggestions in the Our new talk area thread, I figured I would just make a new topic for it.

  • A talk area URL to specific posts in threads as there was in the old forum.

  • A preview post function for the talk area. Forgive me if you already have one or both of the these features planned, but not implemented.

  • A moderator function to merge two duplicate person entries. I could get through a lot of duplicate person content issues quite rapidly if such a function existed.

  • The new lock feature that prevents films from being deleted from collections is great, but what is stopping people from continually re-adding inappropriate films to a collection? For example, if users were to re-add The Animatrix and The Matrix Revisited to The Matrix Collection. For potential problem scenarios like this I would suggest a lock feature that disallows any film additions to a specific collection.

Hey endtheme,

A talk area URL to specific posts in threads as there was in the old forum.

You can now click the "reply by…" text on comments (the header of each comment) and it will provide you with a full URL to that particular post.

A preview post function for the talk area. Forgive me if you already have one or both of the these features planned, but not implemented.

It is already on my list, ticket is here.

A moderator function to merge two duplicate person entries. I could get through a lot of duplicate person content issues quite rapidly if such a function existed.

This is one is a lot of work and honestly, pretty low on my priority list. It may get done eventually but not in the immediate future.

The new lock feature that prevents films from being deleted from collections is great, but what is stopping people from continually re-adding inappropriate films to a collection?

I just created a new ticket for this.

Thanks.

What is the feasibility of offering administrators the ability to send a message to a user. This could be effective to notify and educate certain users of the content guidelines when they consistently modify/add incorrect content. For the sake of transparency perhaps these messages can be sent through the forum and viewed only by administrators. Essentially, it would be like the private content reports but in reverse: sent from admin to a user, and visible only by the admins and the specified user. Other admin would have the ability to contribute to the private discussion.

It's a bit janky (it was something that was added over 2 years ago) but you should be able to already. It's not part of this discussion area though, and it would make sense given all of the new features that it should be. Until then though, if you go into the admin area and search for a user, within the results you'll see an option to "Email" them.

Since this doesn't make it very easy to share a conversation though, you could just email them personally. Adding this functionality right into this discussion area is ideal but I got some other stuff I'm busy working on for a while. Ticket for that is here.

Thanks!

Thanks for creating the ticket. I know you're busy, but here's another (if you agree) for when you have the time:

Feature request: Lock collection - prevents users from adding movies to a collection.

I think we discussed this once, perhaps peripherally, but I am not sure if a ticket was created. This function would stop the ping pong match of films that do not belong to a particular collection from being added to that collection. Eg. People keep using Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp Collection as an anthology of all his films.

Hello. I registered a few moments ago and I must say the website is great. I love the usability and the fact that you offer an official API for us geeks. But I find a couple quite severe lacking features that prevent me from porting my profile from IMDb to here...

=> I cannot seem to find my ratings anywhere. In my profile there is a list of movies I've rated, but it doesn't display the actual scores by me. That information is also missing from the movie's profile page. Rating movies I've watched (and this way keeping list of seen movies) is the only reason for me to be interested in websites like TMDb.

=> It would also be helpful if the rating widget would display not only stars but a numeric value also when hovering upon it. It's quite hard to get the points right without it.

EDIT: Ok, this is either weird or embarrassing... Now my rating is visible right next to the stars. Dunno how I could miss it previously, I did understand to refresh the page after casting scores. So that seems to be in order now. Maybe it would be possible to include the ratings on "my rated movies list" too?

EDIT2: Now I understand. For some reason some movies do not display my rating, some movies do. I don't quite follow this.

Hyperlink conflicting TMDb IDs in validation error notice

This would make fixing validation errors more efficient when correcting content reports en masse. Example:

Imdb is already taken by Shelter (ID: 125065) and Shelter (ID: 17483)

Locking poster art to language

This suggestion is contingent on my assumption that general users have the privilege of setting poster art language. I am not sure if it is available to all users or just mods. The reason I bring this suggestion up is that I have been coming across several instances where a top ranking poster art was set to no language. I suspect it was done to circumvent the ranking system.

BUG REPORT

The bullet guidelines on Upload a Backdrop popup window contains the aspect ratio and image dimensions for poster images, not backdrop images. Other than that, the recent updates are looking good.

Hey endtheme,

Hyperlink conflicting TMDb IDs in validation error notice

This is how I always wanted it to work but there's a stupid reason that makes this harder than you'd think to be able to do. I'll see about getting it done though.

Locking poster art language

Yup, I've seen this same behaviour. Very, very annoying. I've created a new ticket for it.

The bullet guidelines on Upload a Backdrop popup window

Weird, that's not what I see: http://cl.ly/MaTK

Weird, that's not what I see: http://cl.ly/MaTK

Maybe it was a caching issue? I see the proper information now in the backdrop window. Weird indeed.

I think I know where you found it, it's on collections. I'll fix it up.

P.S. little known fact about the new upload function, you can drag multiple files on at once. :D

I noticed that! Thank you sir.
