The film takes a look back at the life of the great Houdini, escape-artist and magician extraordinaire. It also looks into his trying to debunk spiritualists and his silent movie career. It also investigates his promise to return in the afterlife if it is at all possible.

Appleton, Wisconsin, 1886. Harry, 12 years old, has lived and breathed magic since his early childhood. But the small village Appleton is not the best spot for his natural talent to blossom. However one must be tutored by a «real» magician and he doesn’t have the slightest idea of how to contact one… until his father tells him that the great Tesla is in town! Despite the young boys’ lack of knowledge Tesla spots talent, creativity and boldness in Harry. He decides to give him a chance and invites him to his own home, accompagnied by his niece Beth and his robot assistant Amrold.

Harry Houdini was not just a world famous magician and escape artist, he was also known for exposing fraudulent mediums. After his death, Bess Houdini announced that she received a message from her late husband that through a psychic medium. She later recanted and speculation rose if she was just another innocent victim of a spiritualist hoax. Now a century later the memory of what may have been Houdini's greatest trick has all but disappeared. We look into what really happened and how this extraordinary story still captures our intrigue.

On the anniversary of Houdini's death, William Shatner hosts a live special to honor the late magician with various magical acts and rare live footage of Houdini, including some never seen before.

Houdini and his wife Bess are walking along the Seine in Paris, when he encounters a melee between a drunkard and the police. In the ensuing confusion, Houdini is arrested and taken to the police station where he is handcuffed, manacles, shackled, straitjacketed and otherwise tied up to a chair. He escapes from all these restraints. The film, originally shot in 1901, and re-shot in 1909, is intended as a way of recording the amazing escapes of Houdini the illusionist.
