Biography

Cynthia Lowen’s work uses the power of story to catalyze measurable change. She’s the producer and writer of ‘Bully’ (The Weinstein Company) a feature documentary following five kids and families through a year in the life of America’s bullying crisis. ‘Bully’ was nominated for two Emmys, shortlisted for the Oscars, screened at The White House and received a DuPont-Columbia Award for Excellence in Journalism. Cynthia is also the director/producer of ‘Netizens,’ a feature documentary about women and online harassment (Tribeca 2018, HBO Max) which screened at festivals world-wide and is part of the U.S. State Department’s film diplomacy program. Cynthia is currently in development with XTR and 30West on ‘In Her Own Words,’ a feature documentary she’s directing about NDAs and forced arbitration, featuring Gretchen Carlson. In conjunction with her films, Cynthia has spearheaded large-scale impact and engagement campaigns, working with partners such as ADL, Autism Speaks, Facebook, GLSEN, Human Rights Campaign, JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, the National Network to End Domestic Violence, Sears, the United Federation of Teachers, as well as policymakers and many others, to develop wrap-around educational materials, town hall events, digital campaigns, community screening tours, and other initiatives. Through the ‘Bully’ impact campaign, over five million students accessed the film, free of cost, with their educators. Cynthia is the recipient of the Women Authoring Change Fellowship from WME and residencies to Yaddo and McDowell, among other honors; she is a member of the Producers Guild of America.
