Discuss Super Troopers 2

No activity on this board... I know I'm excited for it, though I am nervous too. Well, ok, nervous in the sense that it could suck and I'm taking a trip specifically to see this with my college roommate several hours away! Great times with the first one, so I'm really hoping they can capture that again! Trailer was pretty good, but I also worry that they gave away too much with the trailer!

Thoughts?

I know no one has posted here, but I will update my original post anyway. Now, I'm not a big fan of the comedy genre, and usually prefer either smart comedy or movies that are funny but not billed as straight comedy. However, the original Super Troopers was one that grew on me quickly and became one of my favorites. Yes, circumstances (came out two years before I got to college but only got more popular as it went on) helped me to love it, but I still find it to be one of the funnier films I've seen! Now, having seen the second one, first, I will say that I laughed well through most of it! Yes, certain things really didn't work (Thorney's character kinda sucks this time around due to certain choices he makes) and the intro was a bit of a bust to me, but over all, I had a great time! Second, I urge any fan of the original to see it themselves and make up their own minds (ie: ignore me and ignore critics!). Go in without expectations and I think you'll have a good time indeed!

I was very excited for this long-awaited sequel as the first one has been one of (if not the) my favorite comedy movies ever. Like you, I'm not a big fan of the comedy genre but like humor in other type of movies I watch (Die Hard franchise comes to mind). I do agree that the opening scene fell flat, especially after the memorable opening in the original, and some of the jokes were either too predictable, or just not funny. I did laugh a bunch though and it was great to see these characters back in action. I didn't have high expectations going in because rarely has a comedy sequel even come close to the original and Super Troopers seemed like the stars aligned for that movie. All in all it was definitely entertaining with some laugh-out-loud moments. If you were a fan of the original I would definitely recommend seeing this one.

I love the first Super Troopers film but Beerfest and Club Dread weren't very good imo, so I'm a little worried for this one... I'll definitely give it a try though...

I really like Club Dread, but for two major reasons: I'm a fan of horror and slasher flicks, and I like Jimmy Buffett (at least enough) to love the parody of him in the film! I'm not a huge Beerfest fan though. I wouldn't worry about those movies though. ST2 doesn't feel like any of their previous films that I have seen, including ST.

@mav100000 How is ST2 different (in tone?) to the first one? Does it feel like a big film or a straight to dvd job? The first ST got a lot of laughs from me, lots of funny scenes and I'm not really that big on comedy - or at least I wasn't around the time I first saw it..!

Bluersun, it feels like it has a much larger budget. The look, the feel, the set design (sorta), and the gags all feel higher budget and more modern. Still a great time, but feels quite different from the original somehow. Still, you sound like me a bit (straight comedy is not your genre) and I had a great time with it. Now, it helped that I took a road trip to see my college roommate to see it, so I was in good company!

Cool thanks - my faith in this has been restored! :)

Let me know if anyone else saw it and what you thought!
